There is only a very small amount of materials about the library for non-Finnish speaking children in their own mother tongue. “The library is your friend” booklet has been translated into 14 different lesser-used languages in Finland, e.g. Arabic, Somali, Persian/Farsi, Kurdish and Albanian. In addition, small volumes of the booklet have been printed out in Finnish, Swedish and English for presentation purposes.

A short introduction video of the “The library is your friend” booklet has been made for library workers, early childhood educators and teachers. The video introduces the booklet and what it should be used for.

The well-known children’s book illustrator Christel Rönns has illustrated the booklet, which is based on the Finnish version of the booklet that Oulu City Library has produced. A fun library fox tells children about the library, books and the library card in their own language.

The multilingual library has produced the translations to the “Library is your friend” booklet and the project has been funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
