Live-stream recording from the conference Nordic Libraries Annual 2026. This live-streamed video features the opening words of the conference “Libraries and preparedness”.
Anu Ojaranta of the Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) welcomes the participants to the sixth Nordic Libraries Annual, which has attracted the largest audience to date, 190 participants. She explains that the Agency organizes further education events for public libraries and that libraries have a vital role in crises. She then hands over to the host of the day, Päivi Jokitalo, who introduces the international audience, from the Nordic countries and the Baltic States to Slovenia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Turkey and Argentina, and the structure of the day: from global to local and from strategy to practice, with experiences from Ukraine, insights from research and examples from Spain, Sweden, Norway and finally Finland.
Nordic Libraries Annual is an annual conference that addresses topical issues in public libraries and library development. NLA 2026 was organized as a webinar on October 27, 2026 by the Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) in collaboration with Library Channel (Kirjastokaista).
The theme of the 2026 conference was “Libraries and preparedness”. The conference examined preparedness from different perspectives and from across Europe: what it means for the public and for public libraries, and what examples and experiences already exist within the library sector.
