Live-stream recording from the conference Nordic Libraries Annual 2026. This live-streamed video includes a presentation by Maxim Fedorov, journalist and writer, Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle): “When Crisis Becomes Everyday Life: What Can We Learn from Ukrainians?”
Fedorov has reported on the war in Ukraine for Finnish audiences from Kyiv for nearly five years. In his presentation he looks at everyday resilience and preparedness through Ukrainians’ experiences: what an emergency kit should contain, why planning ahead matters, how households prepare for blackouts (electricity, water, heating, lifts, payments and internet) and why information needs to be filtered critically in a crisis. He stresses that the state does a lot to protect people, but the responsibility also lies with each individual. The presentation is followed by a short Q&A with the moderator, Päivi Jokitalo.
Nordic Libraries Annual is an annual conference that addresses topical issues in public libraries and library development. NLA 2026 was organized as a webinar on October 27, 2026 by the Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) in collaboration with Library Channel (Kirjastokaista).
The theme of the 2026 conference was “Libraries and preparedness”. The conference examined preparedness from different perspectives and from across Europe: what it means for the public and for public libraries, and what examples and experiences already exist within the library sector.
