Kara Orford from The Reader gives the presentation “The Reader – Inspiring a Lifelong Love of Reading Among Children and Young People”. The session introduces The Reader’s work as the UK’s largest Shared Reading charity and offers insights into how stories and poems are used to build connection, support wellbeing, and inspire reading among children and young people. Orford shares examples from The Reader’s long-term work in communities, including reading groups in places such as cafés, hospitals, and prisons, where people come together to experience literature aloud.
This live-stream recording is from the Lukulystit event, held in Seinäjoki on 13–14 November 2025. Lukulystit is a professional event aimed at those working in children’s and young people’s library services. The theme of the 2025 event focused on promoting reading among children and young people who need the most support. Participants enjoyed inspiring lectures, workshops, evening activities, and visits to interesting local venues. Unlike in previous years, Kirjastokaista did not stream the event on site; instead, production was provided by ISLE Art Industries. The lecture recordings will be published on Kirjastokaista.
The Lukulystit professional event was organised by Seinäjoki City Library together with Seinäjoki City Library’s national special task for developing and promoting library services that advance children’s and young people’s literacy and reading, in cooperation with the Regional State Administrative Agency and the National Literacy Programme.
