Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.\u00ae) is a fun, effective and inexpensive way to improve children’s reading skills through the assistance of registered therapy animal teams as literacy mentors.\u00a0Animals can be ideal reading companions because they help increase relaxation and lower blood pressure. Unlike peers, animals are attentive listeners; they don’t judge or criticize, so children are more comfortable and inclined to forget about their own fears.
\nReading Education Assistance Dogs are particularly common in US libraries and schools. Espoo’s Sello library in Finland has a therapy dog, B\u00f6rje<\/strong>, that listens to children, helping them to improve their reading skills. Find out more about the Raisa Alameri’s interview.
