Sarah Mears<\/strong>, the Programme Manager for Libraries Connected and a founder member of EmpathyLab, gives a presentation \u2018Reading, libraries and children\u2019s wellbeing \u2013 a UK perspective\u2019. The presentation is a part of the Lukulystit event and it was hosted by writer Salla Simukka.<\/p>\n

Sarah Mears is a librarian and her current role is as Programme Manager for Libraries Connected- a national charity that supports public libraries in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Before this she worked for a large public library service in England and is a past Chair of ASCEL (The Association of Senior Children\u2019s and Education Librarians). She started her career as a children\u2019s librarian. She is a co-founder of Empathy Lab, a not-for-profit organisation which works with schools, libraries, authors and illustrators to build children\u2019s empathy skills through the creative use of literature. Sarah was presented with an MBE award for Services to Children and Young People in the Queen\u2019s Birthday Honours in June 2018.<\/p>\n

Lukulystit is a bilingual occupational event directed at library professionals working with children and youth. It was held in Tampere in Finnkino Plevna and Metso library between the 9th to the 11th of November. It is organised by Sein\u00e4joki ERTE and Tampere City Library.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme was the Library supporting child and youth wellbeing and mental health. The presentations held on the 9th of November were streamed live on Library Channel and was streamed by ME FILMS.<\/p>\n
